Get started in ten minutes
Create an account, verify your email and sign in. You land on the dashboard with shortcuts to create a map, create a workflow or connect data.
- Open Data → Data Explorer and pick a table from the sample data.
- Choose Create map, style the layer, and add a widget from the gallery.
- Choose Share, set who can see it, and publish.
Core concepts
A few ideas explain most of valueDefine.
- Connection: a place your data lives (PostgreSQL, a file folder, managed data).
- Dataset: a table or query from a connection, with columns and meaning.
- Source: a dataset added to a map, lettered A, B, C. Layers and widgets read from sources.
- Layer: how a source is drawn (points, lines, polygons, colour by a column).
- Widget: a card that summarises a source: KPI, chart, ranking, cards, legend or filter.
- Workflow: a visual pipeline. Publishing freezes a version; runs and schedules use versions.
- Organization and roles: owner, admin, editor and viewer decide who can change what.
Working with maps
Open the Layers panel to add and style layers, Widgets to build the dashboard, Sources to manage data, and Basemap to change the backdrop.
- Click a legend class to show only those features; click again to clear.
- Use the select tool to draw a polygon, rectangle, circle or lasso. The map and widgets count only what touches the shape.
- Use Fit to data to zoom to your layers, and the ruler to measure distance.
- On a phone, tap the bar at the bottom to open Layers, Widgets or Insights as a sheet.
Building workflows
Open the library from the left (or the Add button on a phone), drag or tap a component, and connect the ports.
- Select a step to edit its settings and see its columns.
- Use the Data, Map and SQL tabs at the bottom to check results step by step.
- Group steps to keep large workflows readable.
- Publish a version, then Run it or add a schedule.
Sharing and access
Every map and workflow is private, shared with your organization, or public (maps only). Invite teammates from Settings → Users and give each a role.
- Viewers can open published maps and filter them.
- Editors can build and run workflows.
- Admins manage connections, users and quotas.
API keys
Create an API key in Settings and send it as a Bearer token. A key acts as its owner with the owner’s current role, and cannot create other keys or change passwords.
